Quick Covers FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions:
How are Quick Covers installed? Quick Covers are installed with a combination of automotive-grade adhesive tape and fasteners.
What are Quick Covers made out of? Quick Covers are formed from a very durable thermoplastic. Similar to the material used on OEM wheel flares and moldings.
Where are Quick Covers made? We develop and manufacture everything in Ames, Iowa USA. Thanks for supporting small town manufacturing!
Can I install them myself? Yes. Quick Covers can be installed easily, but we suggest a second pair of hands to help!

Do Quick Covers come painted? No. Quick Covers are delivered in raw plastic form at this time.
Is professional painting required? No. However, because Quick Covers are delivered in raw plastic form, they must be primed with a very specific product. Use of any other primer will result in adhesion issues resulting in paint cracks/peeling. For this reason, professional painting is strongly recommended.
Should Quick Covers be scuffed or sanded before being primed? No. Quick Covers are intended to be coated with a specialty raw plastic primer, which is intended to be applied directly onto the smooth plastic surface. It offers excellent adhesion and flex properties.
Can I install Smooth Quick Covers without painting them? Smooth Quick Covers MUST be painted before installation. They have no UV protection, which means they can be damaged by sunlight. Painting them will provide ample UV protection. Textured Quick Covers DO NOT need to be painted. They have an additional UV coating to protect them from sunlight. We created this version specifically for people that don’t want to do any painting. They are lightly textured to match other automotive accessories like fender flares and bed rail caps.
Why are there sanding marks / scuffs on the surface? We take the time to inspect each and every Quick Cover before it gets shipped out. Sometimes there are tooling marks created during the manufacturing process. Other times there are slight blemishes or small imperfections in the plastic. We sand these imperfections by hand to ensure a smooth surface for a quality painting job.
What primer should be used on Quick Covers products? Quick Covers are delivered in raw plastic form, so a raw plastic-compatible primer must be used. We recommend Polyvance Bumper & Cladding Coat – Adhesion Primer. Part No. 3611-1
What should be used as a rust inhibitor? We recommend brushing a high-viscosity grease on any areas that can be reached by hand. For hard-to-reach areas (i.e. inside of rocker panels and cab corners) we recommend using the aerosol rust inhibitor Like90.
Why are they so thin? Quick Covers are designed for a perfect fit. If we made them any thicker they would rub on the doors of your truck when opening and closing. Our design is thin enough to eliminate those issues while still being thick enough to handle normal wear and tear. Quick Covers are made of ABS, which is a very tough plastic.
What size drill bits do I need for the rivets? We suggest using a 1/8th bit for a pilot hole and then a 3/16th bit (rivet size) to finish off the hole. Starting with a pilot hole makes it easier to get through both the cover and the existing rocker and helps your bit last longer. Double sided drill bits can be purchased in our starter kits on our website.
